Model Highlights
Exterior Design
The exterior of the CX-70 PHEV emphasizes a commanding yet athletic stance. It showcases a modern front and rear fascia with dynamic blacked-out accents that convey motion even when parked. Standard features include high-gloss black metallic aluminum alloy wheels, a distinct honeycomb front grille mesh, and sharp LED daytime running lamps. To handle the bright Arizona sun, the vehicle comes equipped with automatic on/off LED headlights featuring auto-leveling functionality, alongside rain-sensing windshield wipers and automatic power-folding, auto-dimming side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals.
Interior Comfort and Technology
Inside the cabin, the vehicle focuses on craftsmanship and passenger convenience. With a spacious five-passenger seating capacity, the interior layout eliminates the third row to maximize cargo space, delivering up to 75.3 cubic feet of utility with the rear seats folded down.
Drivers can enjoy standard leatherette or premium leather-trimmed seating, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support, and heated front seats. To combat hot Scottsdale summer afternoons, the three-zone automatic climate control system operates with a built-in pollen filter, complemented by available ventilated front seats and second-row retractable window sunshades. The tech-focused dashboard highlights a 12.3-inch fully digital LCD meter display alongside a matching 12.3-inch full-color center infotainment display that integrates seamlessly with voice-controlled navigation.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the e-Skyactiv PHEV system combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 68-kW electric motor, supported by a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. This configuration generates a total system output of 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Power is distributed via a Skyactiv-Drive eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift paddle shifters.
The vehicle features a rear-biased i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system, offering balanced dynamics. Drivers can adapt to changing conditions using the Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) system, which includes Sport, Off-Road, and Towing modes, supporting a maximum towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. For short trips around the Valley, the vehicle offers an all-electric driving range of up to 32 miles on a single charge.
Safety Systems
Safety is heavily integrated through the proprietary i-Activsense suite of driver-assistance technologies. Standard safety items include:
- Smart Brake Support (Forward): Automatically applies emergency braking if an imminent collision is detected.
- Blind Spot Monitoring & Rear Cross Traffic Alert: Aids in lane changes and reversing safely.
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning: Helps prevent unintended lane drift at cruising speeds.
- Vehicle Exit Warning: Alerts passengers to approaching cars or bicycles before opening doors.
- Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go: Adjusts following distances automatically in highway traffic.
Higher trims supplement these with a 360-degree View Monitor, Front Cross Traffic Alert, and Secondary Collision Reduction systems.
